Animaniacs TV Reboot in the Works
It seems just about everything is getting a TV revival these days, even classic cartoon shows from the 1990s. IndieWire reports that Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation are currently in talks to bring back Animaniacs to TV. Academy Award winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who helped develop the original animated series, is reportedly in talks to help craft the updated TV reboot of the Warner Brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and of course the Warner Sister, Dot.
The original animated series debuted on the Fox Kids block from 1993 to 1995 before it moved to Kids’ WB for another three seasons. Insiders indicate that the new show is still said to be in the “early stages of development.” Other details on the new show are incredibly scarce.
The original series followed the adventures of the unruly and mischievous Warner Siblings, after they were trapped inside the Warner Bros. studio lot water tower since the 1930s. The original show was overseen by Tom Ruegger. It also begat the popular spinoff, Pinky and the Brain.
Apparently, the idea was boosted by the surge of popularity of Animaniacs’ recent debut on Netlix. 1990s and 1980s nostalgia are becoming the in thing as of late, especially for TV, when those classic shows become available on Netflix. Full House was recently revived as Fuller House on Netflix and became one of the streaming service’s most popular original shows.
No official details on the new show have been revealed. If a reboot is made, hopefully it will maintain some of the same cast and crew, along with voice actors Rob Paulsen as Yakko, Jess Harnell as Wakko, and Tress MacNeille as Dot.
