In a post on the official Angry Birds Twitter account, Angry Birds franchise developer Rovio announced that the game’s long anticipated sequel, Angry Birds 2, has passed a pretty significant milestone. Just a few days after the game’s launch on mobile platforms, Angry Birds 2 has crossed more than 10 million downloads. You can check out the announcement tweet for Angry Birds 2 below.
Now granted, this is not a huge sales milestone since Angry Birds 2 is free-to-play. The game does have pay elements and micro-transations, but Rovio has not revealed any financial stats of those elements for the game. However, the download mark is evident of the franchise’s enduring popularity among fans and players.
Angry Birds 2 is a free-to-play game, so big download numbers are to be expected. Rovio did not share any information regarding how many of those 10 million players have spent real-world money on it.
This should bode well for Rovio considering there will soon be an animated feature based on the franchise that is scheduled for a May 2016 release. How the writers and producers turn a game about a flock of birds getting revenge on pigs for stealing the eggs into an actual feature-length movie is a bit of a question mark, but it could be interesting.
Angry Birds 2 is currently available on mobile phones and tablets.
Woop!! Thanks for playing! #AngryBirds2
