Andrew Garfield – The Other Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield was rather an unknown talent to the world until a spider’s bite webbed him to international fame. In 2012 the world was intrigued by the new, ever-smiling Spider-Man. We watched as the young actor transformed the old, familiar history of the web swinger, into a thrilling performance like no other.
He was not new to acting or to the stage, just a hidden talent that popped up chasing an oversized lizard, dangling from a web. He may not have had that Superman entrance, but he sure did create a stir in the media and home video sales numbers. Fans and critics poured all over this smiling Garfield.
Who is this Actor?
Andrew Russel Garfield was born in Los Angeles on June 9, 1983. At age three his parents moved back to Epsom, England, where he grew up and studied to become an actor. He garnered early TV roles quickly, appearing in the Channel 4 drama Sugar Rush in 2005. He gained nationwide recognition when in 2007, he participated in the BBC series Doctor Who.
That same year Hollywood saw Garfield’s talent when he appeared in the film Lions for Lambs, co-starring Tom Cruise.
First Award and Then
In 2007 Andrew Garfield appeared in the Channel 4 drama, Boy A, for which he won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor. Later in 2010, he costarred in the film Never Let Me Go, for which he won the Saturn Awards for Best Supporting Actor.
That same year, he appeared in the movie The Social Network, which had the critics showering accolades on him. Rolling Stone said Garfield delivered “a vulnerability that raises the emotional stakes in a movie”, and proclaimed: “Keep your eyes on Garfield — he’s shatteringly good, the soul of a film that might otherwise be without one.”
Spider-Man
In 2012, director Marc Webb agreed with Rolling Stone, that Andrew Garfield was “shatteringly good”. He gave him the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the film The Amazing Spider-Man. The movie was a commercial success landing a worldwide box office of US$752 million.
He won the critics in more ways than imaginable, with people amazed at how amazing this amazing Spider-Man was. He was given the role in the movie sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and played.
Hacksaw Ridge
One of the best appearances of Garfield, outside of Spider-Man, has been his role in the war action movie Hacksaw Ridge. He plays the role of a Seventh-Day Adventist soldier who wanted to serve in the army without using a weapon. He goes on to prove that he is not a coward, but one of the most important members of the battalion that he was part of.
The soldier was at the point of being court marshaled but was rescued by his father. He then goes on to rescue over seventy wounded, including his Captain, all by himself.
The movie was directed by Mel Gibson and showed a brilliant performance by Garfield which most Christians came to cherish.
