Amy Hennig Promises That Her Star Wars Game Won’t be ‘Star Wars Uncharted’
Glixel recently spoke to Amy Hennig, who is one of the most prominent and acclaimed game producers and developers of all time. Amy Hennig can be credited as the creator and game director for the Uncharted series. Currently, she’s working on a new Star Wars game for Electronic Arts and Visceral Games, which promises to be something special.
Unfortunately, Hennig parted ways with Naughty Dog, and she did not work on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Hennig left the developer in 2014 after spending 11 years there. Speaking on if she played Uncharted 4, Hennig stated, “If you break up with your spouse and they get remarried. You don’t want to see photos of the happy couple on Facebook, do you?” She added, “When you’re pulling these characters out of yourself, it’s kind of twisted, in a way, to see them in the hands of someone else.” So it seems like she didn’t play Uncharted 4 at all.
Regarding her work on the new untitled Star Wars game, Hennig reportedly had her office filled with a few thousand Post-it notes on the game, along with rows of cards each labelled with a different scene. Hennig stated on the game, “I need to see it all at once, laid out before me, and then step in when I want to zero in on a particular scene or level.”
The article revealed that her new game will be “spiritually similar” to the Uncharted series, but Hennig is insistent that this title will not be “Star Wars Uncharted.”
While the new Star Wars game will be spiritually similar to Uncharted, Hennig insists it won’t be “Star Wars Uncharted.” It’s an important distinction to make. For example: you’ll never see an Uncharted game cutting away to the point of view of the villain. It may be third person, but we’re always following the hero, as in the Indiana Jones films. Star Wars, however, is different. It’s more of an ensemble adventure with multiple character arcs, which enables everyone to do things in parallel – witness the Death Star escape in A New Hope.
According to the article, the new untitled Star Wars game Hennig is working on is due out in 2018. Very few details have been revealed about the game, other than that Hennig is working on it, and Visceral is developing it.
