Alien Returns To Theaters For One Day Only
Wednesday, April 26 is Alien Day. Can you guess why? It’s because the planet seen in the original Alien was called LV-426, and so on 4-26, 20th Century Fox will be re-releasing Alien on the big screen. This is a promotional stunt to drum up attention for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, of course, but even if that film lays the proverbial Queen’s Egg, we’ll at least have the original.
Unfortunately, you may have a problem getting to it. Alien will only screen once that evening, inside selected theaters that fall under the Regal Cinemas banner (and not all of them). If you’ve tried to go to a limited screening before, you know how frustratingly random the shipments are. Some small towns are getting Alien while some large cities are getting no screenings at all. To find out how far you have to travel, enter your zip code into Regal’s Alien Day page.
Alien was re-released once before, on Halloween 2003, to promote a “director’s cut” that contained some alternate scenes such as the reappearance of Dallas. Scott made this cut only because 20th Century Fox asked him to, and still considers the 1979 version the best. Presumably, the original is what will be screened on 4-26. Viewers will also get to see some advanced scenes from Alien: Covenant.
