Alden Ehrenreich Set to Portray Young Han Solo
It looks like the upcoming Star Wars anthology film that will feature the origin story of Han Solo has found its star. Variety reports that Hail, Caesar! co-star Alden Ehrenreich has signed on to play young Han Solo in the upcoming standalone film. The role was originally made famous by Harrison Ford, who returned to play the character once more for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently attached to direct the film. Kathleen Kennedy is producing the project. The script is written by veteran Star Wars scribe Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan. Ehrenreich likely won a big casting war to land the role in the franchise. Han Solo is one of the most iconic and coveted heroes of the Star Wars Universe. Not to mention the fact that he will be reinventing the character of Han Solo onscreen, so he has some big boots to fill.
It should be interesting to see how Ehrenreich presents the role of Han Solo in his early years. The currently untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie is slated for a May 25, 2018 release date. Star Wars: Rogue One is due out on December 16. Star Wars: Episode VIII will bow on December 15, 2017.
