Akira Ultra HD 4k remaster and Bluray available now at Amazon, Funimation and Crunchroll
Many critics and fans alike had declared Akira as the greatest Cinematic Anime of all time. Akira was a 1988 Anime movie that has been globally influential. If you enjoyed movies like The Matrix trilogy, Chronicle, and Looper then you will love Akira because all of those films are influenced by it.
The King of Pop Michael Jackson was also a fan that his Music video for his song “scream” has influences from Akira too. “Scream” was his duet with his sister Janet Jackson. It has been 32 years and this Anime movie is still timeless.
Akira was set in the year 2019. It is nothing like 2019 that we know because it is set in a futuristic dystopian cyberpunk world. 31 years ago The Japanese government nuked Tokyo because of troubles caused by a failed experiment on Children with ESP. Kaneda, A Biker tries to find his missing friend Tetsuo who got caught to be used for a government project.
Hollywood attempted to remake this film several times but never come to fruition. There was a canceled version where the characters will be whitewashed into Caucasians and Neo-Tokyo will turn into Neo-Manhattan. That canceled version was supposed to star Michael Fassbender, Garret Hedlund, and Andrew Garfield. That version got shelved after the backlash of whitewashing.
There was also a canned version that was supposed to star Keanu Reeves who is half Asian but is too old to play a teenager.
Actor-director Taika Waititi almost made his own remake of Akira as well with an Asian American cast. His version was also canceled.
Rather wait for a Hollywood remake that is most likely going to be subpar, this remaster is definitely the better option.
It is an action-packed adventure with gore and heavy political commentary. This film is very timeless but most of the generation today will refuse to watch a movie that is not in HD. Now the younger generation can now watch this movie remastered in 4k Ultra HD Graphics for the Bluray. Japanese with English subtitles and English dub are both available.
People can enjoy the 4k remaster of this classic at Crunch Roll, Amazon, and Funimation.
