After Yang – A father tries to fix his daughter’s broken Android
After Yang will be coming to Theaters this March 24. Another new Unique masterpiece from A24, A film company known for producing movies out of narratives we has never seen before. A24 is the same company that gave us films like Midsommar,Moonlight,Eighth Grade,Ex Machina and the Award winning Minari. It is the first full length feature of Kogonada who is more known for making short films.
After Young is a Science fiction that conveys different emotions. It is also refreshing because it is a drama that portrays Android as loving members of the family instead of villains out to destroy humanity. The film is first released in the Sundance Festival and it got 85% approval fresh rate from Rotten Tomatoes.
After Yang
Yang (Justin H. Min) is an Android servant child that has been babysitting Kyra (Jodie Turner-Smith) and Jake’s daughter since birth. Despite being AI, he seemed to have a desire to be real and have childhood memories just like a human too. He is like more than an Android or a machine for them. One day, Yang stopped working. Resetting wont even work to restart him because he have a problem with his interior core.
They tried to have him repaired but no one has the ability to do so.
Most electronics have planned obsolescence so people will be forced to buy another one when it got broken. These Humanoid Androids have planned obsolescence too just like those cheap Android phones.
Jake (Colin Farrell) will try to save or find ways to repair him after he started to be unresponsive. For their daughter Mika (Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja) is like a sibling and he is irreplaceable for her.
He and his wife will learn to deal with loss and sorrow because it is unknown if life will be the same after Yang got broken.
