Capcom dropped a new trailer for the highly anticipated Resident Evil 2 remake today during Tokyo Game Show. We’ve already seen the modern renderings of S.T.A.R.S. stars Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, but this trailer reveals the HD debut of agent Ada Wong, plus a few other familiar characters.
Ada has traded her sleek red dress for a trenchcoat and large sunglasses. An alteration made for these more prudish and buttoned-up times? Not really. The problem with Ada’s Oscar Gala attire, says director Kazunori Kadoi, is that it was more believable in the chunky, low-poly world of the original RE2 than it is here.
“It goes back to the same thing of, what would look natural to be wandering around in a photo-realistic environment in?” says Kadoi. “I think wandering around in that dress just getting on with your job as a spy probably doesn’t look as realistic and believable as we want in this new game.”
There are shots from multiple areas in the game, but the main focus of the Resident Evil 2 Story Trailer is the roaring mutant scientist with the gigantic unwieldy arm. Yes, the one with the eyeball. Formerly known as Dr. William Birkin, he’s now turned himself into one of the biggest threats Claire and Leon will face in Raccoon City.
Resident Evil 2 launches for Playstation 4, XBox One and PC January 25, 2019.
Delve deeper into the gripping events taking over Raccoon City, and follow the journey of rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they begin to uncover what’s behind the terrifying zombie outbreak. As both Leon and Claire embark on their own campaigns independently, their collective experiences piece together a comprehensive story uncovering the malicious motives behind the nightmare engulfing the city, the truth behind the nefarious Umbrella Corporation, and the Birkin family’s role in the tragedy.
