Activision Wins Case Against MW3 Fake Site
Remember back when a man who had purchased the domain name ModernWarfare3.com started redirecting to Battlefield 3’s website. Yeah, he probably shouldn’t have drawn attention to himself.
More after the break.
Anthony Abraham originally registered the modernwarfare3.com domain name in 2009 and it wasn’t until earlier this year that he started using it in ways that started raising red flags to Activision. The site started redirecting to Battlefield 3’s homepage and that’s when Activision took notice and made sure to file a complaint with the National Arbitration Board. The Board required Activision to provide proof of 3 things, that the domain name was confusingly similar to a trademark held by Activision, that the current owner had nor right or legitimate interest in the domain, and that the current owner was using it in bad faith. Obviously, all 3 of those were fulfilled and the panel ordered Abraham to transfer the domain over to Activision.
Another example of why you don’t make big corporations angry.
