A Little More Info On The Alien TV Series
Creating a movie that’s an all-time classic and forever influences the genre it belongs to is quite a feat, and usually means a few mediocre sequels. Creating a sequel that not only lives up to the original but stands as a classic in its own right is an even bigger achievement, and in capitalist terms, pretty much means you just founded an unkillable franchise. No Alien movie created since 1992 has managed to come near the first two, but as long as we have Alien and Aliens, there will always be new attempts, forever and ever.
But the one thing that HASN’T been attempted yet is an Alien TV show. Legion’s Noah Hawley is going to attempt just that for FX next year. Details are still very light; the only thing we REALLY know about the plot is that it takes place on Earth, an idea that was ALMOST the plot of Alien 3. Bot FX chairman John Landgraf had a few words to say about the show during a press conference yesterday…
“[The show] is very grounded. I think Noah is very conscious of the fact that there’s a cinematic universe if you will. While it has some flexibility, the aesthetic that was established by Ridley Scott and I think continued by James Cameron is a part of that universe,” he says. But just to make sure Hawley doesn’t go off on any Legion-like tangents (or does anything Joss Whedon did in Alien Resurrection), Scott WILL have a presence in the production of the show. It will be as a producer, not a showrunner, so decisions will ultimately be Hawley’s to make, but the man will be around.
“So while I think you’ll see some inventiveness and originality that is uniquely Noah, I also think the show will feel like a part of the cinematic universe you’re familiar with in terms of Aliens,” says Landgraf.
The Alien TV show still has no release date, nor has it started filming. Landgraf says at the moment, two scripts have been completed and filming is planned to start in early 2022.
