A Heavy Metal Tribute To Gaming History
Commercial video gaming is nearly fifty years old — that’s a lot of soundtracks. It would be a lot for just one man to shred in metal form, but most men aren’t Jules Conroy, the award-winning guitarist who’s worked on Cadence of Hyrule, The Binding of Isaac, and The Crypt of the Necrodancer, as well as metal arrangement albums for Necrodancer and VVVVVV.
On YouTube, he’s known as FamilyJules and he releases music videos for his 400,000 subscribers. This latest one is his biggest yet: titled Replay, it’s heavy metal rearrangements of 46 tracks from throughout gaming history in a session totaling 20 minutes. It’s not the first attempt he’s made at this either.
“My 2014 release of Replay quickly became my most popular video and five years later remains among my top watched videos each week,” says Jules. “It was awesome to see so many people enjoying it since I was so passionate about that project. Yet five years later, there’s five more years to tack on to the end!”
“The first Replay was made under an insane time crunch of one week, but this time I had much more time to give each part of the project as much time as it needed to be the best I could make it. This Replay was made not only to be a more accurate representation of influential game soundtracks, but made to include some of the tracks people said they missed the most in the video comments. Thank so much for watching and I hope you enjoy!”
