2022 Begins With A Sonic The Hedgehog Lego Set
Now that Mario has his own line of Lego sets, his old rival Sonic the Hedgehog has been tapping his feet and griping, “Where’s mine already?” It’s finally here, or at least it will be in a few days…the Lego Sonic set.
This 1,125-piece set contains everything you need to build a recreation of Green Hill Zone, the iconic first level that introduced Sonic to the world. Five minifigs are included (Sonic, Eggman, Crabmeat, Moto Bug and Phantom Ruby) plus gold rings on clear sticks, seven Chaos Emeralds and TVs containing power-ups. There’s even a working spring of sorts….stick Sonic on it, pull a lever and he will catapult into the ceiling. Be gentle with him though.
Most of the Sonic art style seems to have translated well to the blocky, hard-edged world of Lego, with one exception. What happened to Eggman?
Since the Doc isn’t really shaped like a human, you’d think his Lego form would turn out better than this. Our guess is that egg shapes don’t canonically exist in Lego, or something, forcing them to make this weird distorted facsimile.
If you have a good memory of all things Lego, you might know Sonic had a Lego set once before, but it was part of a larger product unrelated to him. He was offered as part of a Lego Dimensions set, back when the whole Toys To Games thing was a trend. That was in 2016 and the Sonic you get in THIS set is modeled differently.
