Xbox One Gets Price Drop Following Strong Holiday Sales
Coming off of record-breaking sales over the holiday season, Microsoft has announced a new price drop for the Xbox One (via Xbox.com). The video game console is now available at a special promotional price of $349.99 at participating and preferred retailers. The announcement was made by Xbox Corporate Vice President of Marketing Mike Nichols.
The news comes after Microsoft announced some record-breaking holiday sales for the Xbox One gaming console. Per NPD data, the Xbox One was the best-selling console in the United States for the holiday season months of November and December. In addition, sales of the Xbox One outpaced the Xbox 360 by 50 percent at the same point in its life-cycle.
Mike Nichols speaking on the news stated: “Building off a record-setting holiday, we are excited to announce a new promotion in which fans in the U.S. can buy an Xbox One at a special price of $349, starting tomorrow, January 16, from their preferred retailer.” He added: “We are thankful for all the excitement for Xbox One this holiday and proud to offer more fans the amazing games lineup, Xbox Live gaming community, and continual innovation that Xbox One fans have come to enjoy.”
The positive news for Microsoft and the Xbox One comes during a crucial year. 2015 will see the release of some big exclusive titles for the console, including Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Crackdown. Now the Xbox One finally has some momentum and positive buzz in its corner. Microsoft did not reveal how long the special promotional price of $349.99 for the Xbox One will last. Based on the statement, it appears that it will be available for a limited period.
