Bungie talks Destiny story, The Dark Below and Destiny 2
In an interview with IGN David Dague, better known as Deej on Bungie.net, has spoken about the story of Destiny, how The Dark Below plot works and the plans for Destiny 2. Dague said that Bungie is aware of the criticism that was voiced about the narrative of Destiny and will use that feedback to create better experiences in the future. He also explained that he sees Destiny as an introduction, getting players acquainted with the world and the enemies so that future games can expand and reveal more information.
“Destiny launched with an introduction to a big, huge new world that took you to a lot of places. I think we covered a lot of ground. In terms of a sufficient story, I think it’s something that has definitely captured the imagination of players. It really doesn’t think what we think of Destiny’s story, we listen to what the player thinks about the story. They’ve had a lot to say about the narrative, they’ve had a lot to say about what they expect from Bungie and what they would like to see from us in the future.”
“The Dark Below gives players the chance to see what we have been doing as storytellers since the game launched. I think it is a more unified experience. Instead of sending you from planet to planet, bouncing from place to place fighting different enemies for different reasons, the entire theme of The Dark Below is about Eris and her arrival in the Tower. Everything you do in The Dark Below is focused on the same theme.”
The Bungie community manager also discussed the studios plans for Destiny 2 and how they want players to become attached their their own Guardians so that they can use them throughout the franchise.
“For Destiny 2 the idea is that the Guardian you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they’ve had a relationship with the same character for a very long time. The fact that we are working on the game and the fact that we are thinking about the future of Destiny, it’s been no secret that we have a 10-year plan for the expansion and evolution of this franchise. It’s something we are always dreaming about.”
